Held at the Performance Space at Carriageworks in Darlington, Matters of Life and Death was a collection of workshops, events and performances addressing the subject of death and mortality.
Invited to Victoria Spence’s event Mortality Talking I learnt much from being an audience member and met a range of interesting and intelligent people. Victoria generously gave me the opportunity to speak briefly about Shroud Memento.
Victoria is an erudite funeral celebrant and supplier of cooling beds that enable families to keep a loved one at home with them from the point of death up to several days later to provide them time – a key factor in good grieving – to say their goodbyes and to just ‘be’ with the deceased.
Victoria is instrumental in providing important knowledge and information about our rights when we or a loved one die. Many of us know so little and rely entirely on the information from the funeral directors who don’t always have the bereaved’s best interest at heart despite their dulcet tones.
