Addison Road Community Centre in Marrickville, Sydney, hosts a range of events and one held earlier this year on 19th March for the elders of our community, billed as a senior citizens’ Big Day Out (SCBDO), displayed a range of beneficial services and community organisations along with displays from craft practitioners for the patrons who strolled through the ARCC grounds and community hall.
Happily, I was invited by one of the friendly and talented organisers, Samara Shehata, to have a stall as part of the SCBDO to display some of the shroud samples I have made. With beautiful weather, live music, a free lunch and some amazing craft work on display, I met a range of interesting people who appreciated the shrouds and who were excited at the idea of being covered in such a garment of love for when their time came.
If you haven’t been to Addison Road Community Centre it’s worth the visit, whether to shop at the Sunday markets, find material at Reverse Garbage, browse through the second furniture and home furnishings or to see the current exhibition on at the Gallery.
